I bet this question was asked after finding out about Didier Drogba! Drogba is the star of Ivory Coast’s national soccer team and he is one of the best strikers in the game today. And as he’s African he has drawn himself a lot of attention at the 2010 World Cup, even despite the fact that he was injured. He was questionable for today’s game, but the spirit of a nation was behind him. He played pretty well seeing how it was his first game back. Holding Portugal to no goals is not an easy feat. African supporters are hoping for a speedy recovery, he fractured his elbow in a friendly against Japan on June 4th. Soccer is an extremely passionate game, that’s why when players get tackled they usually try to “sell� the call by overreacting and protesting to the referee in an overly-dramatic fashion. Those who aren’t especially familiar with the game of soccer might think that because of these antics, players get hurt all the time. But actually it’s quite the opposite. It is very rare to see soccer players get hurt. The most common cause of injury is due to elongated periods of play. Players on strong club teams play upwards of 40 games a year, and this does not include international play, which can up the amount of games played significantly. The soccer season is almost endless, players play all year round. When fatigue sets in, this leads to injury.
